Here Comes the Sun
Posted September 16, 2019
You wouldn’t think that having sunshine would be a problem as the summer winds down. 5th graders at Prairie Lane however, had to have a little patience as they waited for a number of morning storms to clear from the forcast. They needed the sunshine to get going on their study of the Sun and shadows. Once they had their clear sky, it was time to head outside with sidewalk chalk, a Sun-tracker, and their inquiring minds. One lesson had students tracing around partners’ shadows a couple of times one day. Another day, the students followed the shadow of a golf tee on their Sun-tracker. All the investigations are part of the fifth grade Earth and Sun Science. Next, they take on the Moon and its phases. Let’s hope they don’t have to wait through cloudy nights.
